Getting’ kinda tired of Christmas music, eh?
Well, I can’t say I blame you. If you spend any time at all in a shopping mall, you are inundated with an endless barrage of generic holiday music. If you work in the mall, it’s enough to make you want to strangle Santa personally. Naturally, this is a shame, because the spirit of Christmas is not supposed to be tempered by blind rage and exhaustion. In addition to the religious aspect that provides the impetus for all of this, we’re also supposed to have some fun at the holidays. So, rather than run screaming from Macy’s when you hear your 40 billionth rendition of “Jingle Bells,” perhaps you ought to alter your perspective a little bit.
What you need are a few, um, ‘original’ versions of these overly familiar tunes to help carry you through. We have concocted this episode of American Hit Radio for that exact reason. Play this show and you will get one solid hour of holiday music that strays from the norm, and hopefully, makes a few of these cranky old tunes sound new again. Enjoy!

Name That B-Side!!

NAME THAT B-SIDE!

One thing you can say about the Summer of 1966 is that there was no shortage of great pop music. In fact, the best bands were unstoppable, releasing singles with hits on both sides of the 45 RPM single. Nowadays the very idea of a 45 RPM single is quaint, but if you think about it, it might have been a better system than we presently have. Today, if you like a song, you can buy the CD (18.99 or thereabouts), or you can download it – no B-side, no “lagniappe” (a little something extra for free). In 1966, it was quite possible that you could like the B-side as much as the A-side, maybe even more! So join us as we have some fun playing a few of our favorite great hits from August 1966 (and a” Great Miss’, for good measure). If you want to play our game, DON’T READ THE SONG TITLES LISTED BELOW!! Otherwise, just listen and have some fun.

Here’s a list of songs covered in this week’s edition of “American Hit Radio”;

1) You Can’t Hurry Love – The Supremes
2) Bus Stop – The Hollies
3) Mother’s Little Helper – The Rolling Stones
4) Lady Jane – The Rolling Stones
5) Yellow Submarine – The Beatles
6) Eleanor Rigby – The Beatles
7) Wouldn’t It Be Nice – The Beach Boys
8) God Only Knows – The Beach Boys
9) Summertime – Billy Stewart (as a ‘Great Miss’)
10) For No One – The Beatles (as a featured album track)
11) Fade-out – Doctor Robert – The Beatles
