WINTER 1964

WINTER 1964

1964 may have been a classic year for pop music, but not everything was peaches and cream. In the midst of some timeless classics, more than a few klunkers appeared, too. Most of these abominations have been forgotten over time, but I’m not one to let sleeping dogs lie. That is why, among some of the best popular music from November/December 1964, I also feature three classic ‘great misses’ in this edition of ‘American Hit Radio’. For good measure, we end the show by featuring three album tracks which indicate the very beginning of a shift in the album market from older easy-listening artists to rock and rollers with enough talent to sustain an entire album.
Hope you enjoy the show!

Tracks featured in this program include
1) Come See About Me – The Supremes
2) She’s Not There – The Zombies
3) You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feeling – The Righteous Brothers
4) How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You – Marvin Gaye
5) I’m Gonna Be Strong – Gene Pitney (as a ‘Great Miss’)
6) The Wedding – Julie Rogers (also as a ‘Great Miss’)
7) Leader of the Laundromat – The Detergents (naturally, also as a ‘Great Miss’)
8) Walking in the Rain – The Ronettes (as a featured album track)
9) Around and Around – The Rolling Stones (as another featured album track)
10) I’ll Be Back – The Beatles (fading out as our final featured album track)

Winter 1961

WINTER 1961
Left Click to Play - Right Click to Save

Well, I guess we’re back in business!! We have been experiencing all sorts of technical glitches while attempting to get from the ‘live’ radio show to a digital ‘pod’ broadcast. Shows from the past three weeks were scrapped because of faulty CD burners, inadequate CD-R readers…I could go on and on, but I’m VERRY happy to say that it appears as though those problems have mysteriously vanished this week, and just in time, because this is a great show, full of wonderful music and some great, informative trivia.
In America, 1961 marked a lull in rock in roll. At the time, it appeared as though it might have been dying altogether, and the artists who were playing it were viewed as slightly out of fashion. In its place, country music went mainstream, while a nascent version of soul music also began to attract popular attention. You’ll here a combination of all these styles in this edition of ‘American Hit Radio’.
It’s great to be back, and we’ll try our best to keep the content coming! Post your response, so we can react to your feedback.
Thanks for listening,
Tom Ryan
