LIVE-8

LIVE-8
Click Here to Play the Show!

Okay, you’ve probably heard enough about this already…or maybe you haven’t. If you haven’t logged on to www.one.org yet, then you certainly have NOT heard enough. Don’t worry, it won’t cost you anything, and it takes a remarkably minimal amount of time. Go on, do it, then come back here, listen to this program, and feel good about yourself for doing something that is so simple and yet so important. This edition of American Hit Radio features music by a few of the participating artists at Live-8, including U2, Paul McCartney (as a member of the Beatles here), R.E.M., Travis, Coldplay, and Pink Floyd. Enjoy the show, and while listening, LOG ON to www.one.org

Did anybody actually see Live8? I remember the original LiveAid was a huge cultural phenomenom and you couldn't escape. Remember the anticipation of seeing Led Zeppelin get back together? Remember Phil Collins playing in London, flying on the concorde and then playing here in the US? We actually taped the whole thing.

But Live8? I forgot it was on and nobody was talking about it. It was a complete non-event here on the West coast.

Geoff,
Your comments indicate exactly what I feared... This time around, I must agree that it just didn't seem to have the same buzz as it did 20 years ago. I thought that maybe it was just me - I'm getting older, I'm less 'plugged in' to the zeitgeist - whatever. The attendance at the concerts was fairly huge - more than the original "Live-Aid" - but that was because those shows were held in stadiums. This year, they were free festival-style events.
If you're interested, the original "Live-Aid" performances from July 1985 are available on a 4-DVD set, or on a 'best-of' single DVD, and I review it on americanhitnetwork.com
